TRIPHANTS

These two DAS Pronto clay figures were made a long long time ago. That's no excuse really as I was still an adult and should know better. Sorry to say that my skills have not improved at all since as you will see later when I post my fimo-sculpty Cosmic Creatures . I do love these guys though. I call them Triphants, as they are kinda horsey-elephant animals with 3 legs. The clay was terrible to work with I found, especially if parts of your model had to hold any weight while it was drying. A skeleton of some kind would have been the way to go, but since I had no idea what I was going to sculpt, there was no way to put one in after. The left one is from 1981 and stands about 6 inches tall. The right one is from 1988 and served as a sentinel in a cosmic doorway between two worlds of another sculptural piece of that time.

I CRUSH YOU! ... or did he say I love you?

We all know who this is really supposed to be! Even though it is not technically Godzilla  sans atomic breath and glowing back fins, but what other reptillian monster towers over skyscrapers, rips them in two like Lego, has a series of jets flying overhead him and can take a good wollup of ammo fire and still smile for the camera? Well at least I always thought of this Black Light poster as Godzilla, and still do. There are two posters that I take everywhere. The Roger Dean poster that came with the first art book I ever bought myself called Views and this poster called Crusher. From my bedroom studio at 14 to my present studio at 47, and every place in between, they are up on my wall.

I love comic books and I used to copy pictures from them a lot when I was a kid. It's a good exercise for eye/hand coordination. When I bought my first technical drawing ink pens, I continued to copy, but straight without any underlying framework or sketching with the pencil first and certainly without tracing..... and no whiteout!  I look back and think that it must be someone else, but there were a few others drawings done at that time with my name on it.

God of Monsters

Hello and welcome to my monster blog. I am coming out of the closet for my love of monsters.

I have always loved creatures and bug-eyed aliens, monster movies and science fiction. I am an artist so most of my posts will probably be my artwork as they come up, but I will post other things that I love about monsters and creatures as well. I will start of with an ink portrait I did of the God of all monsters, Godzilla. As I get older my love and appreciation for Godzilla grows.
